Is the Bitcoin mining industry ready to overcome the global chip shortage?

Over the past year, bitcoin mining firms have secured million-dollar deals in order to pre-purchase thousands of ASIC bitcoin mining rigs. ASIC makers like Microbt, Bitmain, and Canaan have been selling hundreds of new models to data centre operators.

Meanwhile, the semiconductors that ASIC bitcoin mining rigs rely on being incredibly difficult to procure, since hundreds of sectors throughout the world are experiencing global chip scarcity. According to a survey of 150 companies conducted by the United States Department of Commerce, the enterprises only had five days of supply remaining, although they generally have 40 days of supply on hand.

Bitmain, a manufacturer of ASIC bitcoin mining rigs, has announced the release of two new bitcoin mining machines in the previous three months. Bitmain revealed the Antminer S19 XP in mid-November, and then on January 17, 2022, the firm released the Antminer S19 Pro+ Hyd.
