Under Armour’s Curry Brand plans to launch non-fungible tokens (NFTs)

Under Armour’s Curry Brand is launching non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to announce every three-point shot made by NBA basketball player Stephen Curry during the upcoming playoff games.

Curry, who plays for the Golden State Warriors, is famous for his high-arching three-pointers, which he can make from anywhere beyond the 22-foot arc around the basketball net.

The NFTs, which will be distributed to fans on a first-come, first-served basis, will also include “serums,” which are kept in digital wallets and enable owners to change the look of their avatars.

Starting in June, the company intends to release an additional 20,000 basketball NFTs.

Luxury and fashion firms are actively experimenting with NFTs and blockchain-backed games in a bid to get into the $800 billion metaverse industry by 2024. According to Morgan Stanley, luxury fashion is expected to represent a $50 billion revenue opportunity by 2030.

This is neither Under Armour’s nor Stephen Curry’s first venture into the NFT space. Curry Brand released wearable sneakers in December that can be used on a variety of gaming platforms, including Decentraland, The Sandbox, Gala Games, and Rumble Kong League.

Curry won a partnership with crypto exchange FTX to demystify the crypto market in September 2021, only a day after turning to Twitter for crypto advice.
