Matt Hancock, the former Secretary of State for Health and Social Care and now a Member of Parliament (MP) of the United Kingdom, has asked the House of Commons to make England the “hub” of cryptocurrency.
Matt has been an MP for West Suffolk since 2010, but resigned as Health Secretary in mid-2021 due to allegations concerning COVID violations linked to an alleged extramarital affair. That is to say, while his support is appreciated by the industry, it may not carry the same weight as it formerly did.
Matt emphasised the benefits of crypto and fintech adoption in terms of economic stimulation and even financial crime reduction during his statement in the House of Commons, urging the government to ‘guarantee’ it creates progressive policies in these areas.
Following his speech, Matt also tweeted:
“New inventions such as FinTech and cryptocurrency may find a home in the United Kingdom. We can boost transparency and take the lead in new world-changing technology if we do it well.”
