This MP becomes the first European Politician to take Bitcoin pay

Now it’s turn for a Belgian MP to take his salary in Bitcoin. The popularity of Bitcoin is not only limited to youth, but some politicians are also big fans of this cryptocurrency. Brussels member of parliament Christophe De Beukelaer is the first European politician to convert his salary to Bitcoin.

According to Bruzz, the Brussels MP’s monthly salary of EUR 5,500 will be converted to Bitcoin via the Bit4You crypto trading platform. Beukelaer, who is a member of the Humanist Democratic Centre (CDH) party, thinks that his action will encourage other politicians in the region to take an interest in the emerging technology.

Beukelaer mentioned New York City Mayor Eric Adams as an example of how American politicians are attempting to turn their home state or city into a Bitcoin hotspot.

Beukelaer stated:

“For the past three months, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been receiving his Bitcoin salary in order to make New York the Bitcoin capital. I believe Brussels and Belgium can still play a prominent role in the bitcoin business.”
