Sling TV LLC, has announced a partnership with Bitpay, an Atlanta-based cryptocurrency payments service. They will accept a variety of crypto assets for monthly subscription payments. Sling TV transmits live news, sports, and other TV shows over the Internet, eliminating the need for a clunky cable box.
The firm is a subsidiary of Dish Network, a direct-broadcast satellite operator that accepts cryptocurrency payments for subscription services. According to sources, Sling will have more than 2.55 million users by September 2021.
Sling claims to provide several advantages by providing over-the-top (OTT)-originated services through web browsers, smart TVs, and digital media devices. Accepting cryptocurrency shows the company’s ambition to provide “choice and ease to its check-out process,” according to Sling’s statement.
Subscribers to Sling TV can pay in bitcoin (BTC), bitcoin cash (BCH), ethereum (ETH), wrapped bitcoin (WBTC), dogecoin (DOGE), and litecoin (LTC).As an added bonus, Sling customers can now pay with stablecoins such as GUSD, DAI, and BUSD.
Customers with an existing monthly subscription to Sling TV may now pay using digital currencies. New users must pay using a traditional payment method once before the cryptocurrency payment option becomes accessible to monthly customers the following month.
According to Sling’s summary of the new payment system, “Sling customers will only be able to make one monthly, manual payment with Bitpay.” They will also be able to pay for straight six month payment at a time.
