Secret Terra chat leak uncovers “war room” situation after LUNA’s demise

A whistleblower has uncovered a communication record between important parties, including Do Kwon, about conversations of launching LUNA 2.0 in an open manner.

A whistleblower has revealed a communication log between key actors, including Do Kwon about the discussions before launching LUNA 2.0 in the spirit of openness. The conversation logs demonstrate the chaos and bewilderment that Terra insiders were dealing with in the aftermath of LUNA’s demise. On June 1, The Telegram group from which the discussion logs were collected was called the “Terra Rebirth League” (TRL), and it had roughly 200 members. The debate, which began on May 12, immediately devolved into a confusion due to the various opposing viewpoints. Do Kwon and Sunny Aggarwal of Osmosis were among those present for the discussion. In addition to high-profile people, validators, developers, and other significant voices took part in the conversation.

The TRL was formed to become “a specialised ongoing task force, independently run, always critically assessing all attack vectors/vulnerabilities,” according to one forum member dubbed BigB.

These ambitions were quickly put to the test as the inherent difficulties of coordinating so many people became clear. One of the initial issues was determining where Terra should stop on the blockchain. Not all validators have terminated transactions at the same time.

In the early phases of the debate, there were also requests to incorporate regular community members, but it was thought that this would do more harm than good. SyncNode’s George Bunea rebuffed such suggestions, claiming they would just complicate matters.

Bunea stated, “this [discussion] is for validators… we already have a lot of confusion.”
JoseCT lamented organisational factors as well, “I think this kind of movement [sic] should be better organised and announced properly. In fact, following this kind of chats in Telegrams is not easy,” he said. Even Do Kwon had trouble following all of the conversations. At one point he said, “Can someone summarise the issue? I’m pretty confused.”

One of the group’s worries was whether they had enough collective voting power to influence and govern Terra’s future fate. As the crisis progressed, it became evident that the gang had substantial support to assist them carry out their goals.

The dilemma of what to do and when to do it remained. However, it is evident that there was a widespread sense of urgency throughout the Terra ranks, especially at the top executives. In the end, the Terra Rebirth League waited for two conditions to be met before making its move. The first was the reactivation of the Wormhole bridge, and the second was Do Kwon’s permission.
