Russia takes “U Turn” on crypto legislation comes in support of central bank amid Hydra darknet shuts

As per the report  the Russian government supports the central bank’s stance against the legalisation of cryptocurrencies for payment.

Chainalysis announced on April 5 that German authorities were shutting down Hydra, a dark net platform that facilitated money laundering and drug purchases and catered to Russian-speaking countries. Furthermore, the marketplace is said to have assisted in the conversion of cryptocurrency into Russian rubles

The publication cited Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, who reportedly stated on April 7th,

“We are against the acceptance of cryptocurrency as a form of payment or money.”

However, as the Prime Minister explained, there was no immediate ban on crypto mining.

“We also believe that, in order to stimulate investment, particularly in fixed capital, we can talk about mining issues, such as the construction of data centres and related infrastructure.”

Around the time of this update, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned Russia, accusing its army of war crimes against civilians, including children. Zelenskyy also demanded that Russia be removed from the Security Council and that a special tribunal be convened.

As millions of dollars in cryptocurrency donations pour into Ukraine to support its military efforts, crypto analysts and trackers are keeping an eye on how Russian crypto users may use digital assets to avoid sanctions.
