A digital artist, Pplpleasr, said on February 18 at the Ethereum-focused conference “ETHDenver” that she is helping with the launch of Shibuya, a decentralised video platform.
Pplpleasr is the NFT artist behind Fortune’s NFT cover, as well as the decentralised art collecting platform PleasrDAO, which is currently raising $69 million. Pplpleasr’s next project is a decentralised media platform that she compares to Netflix, Vimeo, and the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. Shibuya is going to use non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and cryptocurrency to let users directly affect the platform’s content on the platform.
Shibuya’s first piece of media, White Rabbit, will include elements of anime, the English drama Black Mirror, and Web3. White Rabbit’s short trailer, which was shown during the conference, depicts a lady waking up in a field and seeing a magnificent castle. The preview stops there, with the lady facing two closed doors. Each door correlates to a distinct episode’s conclusion.
To watch the episodes, viewers must mint NFTs on Shibuya, which may be staked to determine the direction of the episode. Voters will then get White Rabbit tokens, which represent partial ownership of the web series.
Pplpleasr said that Shibuya has not taken outside funding. Among the project’s other collaborators is the digital artist Maciej Kuciara, who sells their NFTs via the auction house Phillips. The platform is scheduled to begin on March 1, Pplpleasr stated, and will eventually include media other than video.
