Jesse Powell, the CEO of the crypto exchange Kraken, recently denounced Canada’s emergency act aimed at putting an end to the truckers’ strike. Following the GoFundMe incident, truckers began accepting funds in Bitcoin, prompting the Ontario Securities Commission to seize cryptocurrency wallets.
The CEO of Kraken has been outspoken in his opposition to the Canadian government’s initiatives, believing that the mandate on trucker vaccines has gone too far. Jesse Powell contributed an entire Bitcoin to the truckers on February 6 to show his support for them.
The Kraken CEO is well-known for his directness and lack of equivocation. Powell added that the “conventional banking system has effectively been militarised” and that “crowdfunding sites are regulated like terrorist financing platforms,” referring to the Canadian government.
Powell went on to say that all of this is even more troubling in a generally free country like Canada. Apart from Jesse Powell, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong also expressed his displeasure with the Canadian government, saying, “It’s troubling to see anything like this happening in any country, especially one as economically free as Canada.” The importance of self-custodial wallets cannot be overstated!”
