Intel announces its first mining chip clients

Raja Koduri, senior vice-president of Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group, gave a glimpse of the company's playbook in a post titled "Blockchain and the New Custom Compute Group."

“We are focusing our efforts on reaching the full potential of blockchain by inventing the most energy-efficient processing technology at scale,” Koduri says in the post. Intel is going all-in on blockchain technology.

With a roadmap of energy-efficient accelerators, Intel declares its intention to contribute to the development of blockchain technology. Intel engages in and supports an open and secure blockchain ecosystem, as well as contributes to the responsible and sustainable advancement of this technology.

Intel intends to release a bitcoin mining chip. Raja Koduri stated that:

“Our blockchain accelerator will be available later this year.” We work directly with clients who share our environmental ideals. Argo Blockchain, BLOCK (previously known as Square), and GRIID Infrastructure are among the first clients for this new offering. This design is built on a small piece of silicon, so it has a negligible influence on existing product supply.
