Emirates Airline plans to offer Bitcoin as mode of payment to attract new customers

Emirates Airline, a top UAE airline, has announced plans to incorporate "bitcoin as a payment service" to attract new customers.

Emirates Airline, one of the top airlines of UAE, has revealed plans to explore “bitcoin as a payment service” option. According to Emirates Airline’s chief operating officer (COO), Adel Ahmed Al-Redha, the airline will soon start accepting “bitcoin as a payment service.” In addition, the airline’s website will also feature non-fungible token (NFT) collections. However, it is still not specified when the airline plans to begin accepting bitcoin payments.

The airline’s intention to accept bitcoin comes only weeks after it announced its NFT and metaverse aspirations. Emirates Airline intends to use innovative digital technologies such as blockchain, metaverse, and cryptocurrency to engage with customers in a more timely and flexible manner. The airline will also try to utilise blockchain to track aircraft records. The purpose of the metaverse launch is to guarantee that the airline is “aligned with the UAE’s vision for the digital economy.”

Al Redha intimated in statements published in Arab News that the airline may need to hire staff to help it develop applications that track client wants. He also discussed the distinctions between NFTs and the metaverse. He elaborated:

“NFTs and metaverse are two different applications and approaches. With the metaverse, you will be able to transform your whole processes — whether it is in operation, training, sales on the website, or complete experience — into a metaverse type application, but more importantly making it interactive.”

Al-Redha stated the airline industry has recovered well post-COVID-19, as seen by the increased number of passengers. However, he stated that the greatest difficulty is the availability of resources throughout the network. He went on to say that, however, they “are in a better position than other countries because of the accessibility.”
