Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has revealed that he owns 9.2 percent of Twitter. This explains the purpose of Musk’s public poll, in which the public was asked if the algorithm utilised by the social media behemoth founded by Jack Dorsey should be open source. Musk urged Twitter users to vote carefully, saying that the results would have far-reaching implications.
Colin Wu, a Chinese crypto journalist, tweeted a tweet concerning Musk and his Twitter investment, reminding the community that the billionaire and major Dogecoin supporter had previously stated that he would welcome DOGE’s inclusion on Twitter. Musk’s investment makes him the company’s single largest investor, surpassing Jack Dorsey, who stood down as CEO in November of last year.
Musk wrote in response to a question from a Twitter user regarding whether Musk was seriously considering launching a new social media platform during the conversation that followed the aforementioned poll. The imagined platform would appear to be a Twitter competitor, and it would be powered by an open-source algorithm. Not only could this new platform be based on an open-source algorithm, but Musk has already suggested that he would support the inclusion of his favourite digital currency, Dogecoin, on social media, as Colin Wu pointed out in his tweet.
This could mean that if Elon decides to launch a new social media network, it will almost certainly include DOGE payments and tips, similar to how Bitcoin and Ethereum’s tipping features were implemented into Twitter last year. Elon Musk joined the conversation started by Ark Invest’s Director of Research, Brett Winton, on Saturday, April 2, about the failure to explain cryptocurrencies to the older generation.
Musk responded with a meme-video about Dogecoin travelling to the moon, which he claims “explains everything.” Mining chips for Dogecoin, Bitcoin, and other currencies that use the proof-of-work method to validate transactions were also seen in the video clip. That video was dubbed “the best cryptocurrency video in history” by DOGE co-founder Billy Markus.
Will Musk be able to achieve this social media integration? Comment below.
