US based Coinbase Inc, a global cryptocurrency exchange platform announced on Sunday that they appoint Durgesh Kaushik – the former Managing Director in charge of Snapchat India and South Asia market development – to manage the exchange’s development in emerging markets as a Senior Director for Market Expansion.
The VP of International and Business Development at Coinbase Nana Murugesan, confirmed Kaushik’s appointment and stated that:
“We’re excited to confirm that Durgesh Kaushik will be joining Coinbase on May 9 as our senior director for market expansion….His appointment to this global leadership role is an important step toward our entry in India, as well as our mission to increase economic freedom around the world.”
In 2019 Kaushik, joined Snap Inc, a camera and social media firm based in the United States, left the company late last month. Snap daily active users in India increased by 150% year on year, hitting 100 million monthly active users.
Kaushik will be responsible for scaling exchange operations in India as well as assisting the exchange’s entry into other markets in Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and the Americas.
Coinbase introduced cryptocurrency trading in India last month and is expanding its product offerings in the country.
Coinbase’s India tech hub now has 300 full-time employees, but the company intends to hire over 1,000 individuals in the country this year. Coinbase Ventures, the company’s venture capital arm, has already invested $150 million in local Indian IT companies in the Web3 and crypto sector, and is looking for new ways to assist Indian startups scale.
