On May 26, Hong Kong-based communications, media, and technology (CMT) organisations PCCW and HKT media joined hands with The Sandbox to join the metaverse. Following this collaboration, PCCW and HKT became the first CMT organisations to dive into the world of metaverse.
The two firms have purchased virtual land in Mega-City, The Sandbox’s Hong Kong-inspired neighbourhood, and are planning to establish the world’s first virtual 5G mobile network, transforming traditional movies, television, and music into Web3-enabled entertainment.
To create a virtual “metacommunity,” PCCW and HKT will also roll out new financial and health technology, as well as e-commerce options.
The Sandbox, a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, is a blockchain-based platform where users may buy and sell games and land plots, as well as earn digital currency.
The Sandbox tweeted the following on its Twitter handle regarding the collaboration:
Susanna Hui, group managing director of HKT and PCCW, stated:
“We’re excited to collaborate with The Sandbox to join the metaverse and explore Web3, where we may take advantage of the limitless possibilities that exist in all facets of our daily life.”
