Team17, the firm behind the iconic Worms video game brand, which has sold over 75 million copies in over two decades, revealed on February 1 that its MetaWorms NFT project has been cancelled. The game was supposed to bring the Worms franchise to blockchain using NFT connections.
Yesterday the firm tweeted:
Team17 is today announcing an end to the MetaWorms NFT project.
We have listened to our Teamsters, development partners, and our games’ communities, and the concerns they’ve expressed, and have therefore taken the decision to step back from the NFT space.

NFTs have a terrible reputation in the gaming sector, with devoted gamers voicing concerns about the energy-intensive nature of cryptocurrencies, as well as possible business frauds. Have a look at the response of the popular gamer John Cartwright to Team17’s announcement.
He tweeted:
If those behind the initial campaign are reading this I hope you start listening to the actual creatives at Team 17. You could have easily avoided this but decided to go behind their backs
