MTN mobile network company purchases land in the Metaverse

According to a report, South Africa’s mobile network operator, MTN, has purchased 144 plots of digital land in the Ubuntuland metaverse. The acquisition makes MTN one of the first South African companies to enter the metaverse. The Mybroadband report says, MTN now owns 144 plots of 12 square metres in size.

MTN’s group executive for marketing, Bernice Samuels, is quoted commending the company’s shift to the metaverse and describing how it fits into the company’s Ambition 2025 strategy. According to the executive:

“This is the foundation of our Ambition 2025 strategy: harnessing trends that enhance customers’ digital experiences and engagement. We have always been at the forefront of technical and digital advances, and we are excited about the prospects that the metaverse brings for us and our clients.”

The mobile network provider went on to say that its participation in the metaverse shows its support for African innovation. According to the article, MTN will also try to increase its client attraction through this presence in the metaverse. According to research, this will be done via a series of experiences that are combined with consumer passion points such as gaming and music.
