On Thursday afternoon, Twitter announced that it would roll out iOS support for non-fungible token (NFT) hexagonal avatars. Currently, iOS users would only have access to this feature. For now, Twitter Blue subscribers have to pay USD 2.99 per month for this feature. According to the tutorial video, users can connect their digital wallets such as Coinbase Wallet, Rainbow, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Argent, Ledger Live and set them as profile pictures. Users can also learn about each other’s NFT avatars like owner’s creation, author’s series description, and authenticity verification on third-party platforms such as OpenSea.
According to Twitter, the platform does not maintain a constant connection with its crypto wallet. However, the company will save the public wallet address for the continuous inclusion of NFT avatars. On iOS it can only be set via Twitter Blue, but NFT profile pictures will be displayed on all platforms.
Development features are still in a very early stage. Currently, Twitter only supports still images such as JPEG and PNG files created on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain. However, if you sell or transfer the NFT while it is set as your profile picture, clicking on it will not display any ownership information.
