The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) held its first meeting in the Metaverse as reported by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. The virtual meeting was attended by TBMM Group Vice Presidents Mahir Ünal and Mustafa Elitaş, as well as Ak Party Vice President Ömer וleri, who is in charge of information and communications technology. Eritash physically attended the meeting from the Capitol, whereas Unal and Irelli were at the Ak Party (AKP) headquarters. Cryptocurrency regulation was the highlight of the conference.
Ünal told state news agency AA that crypto-assets require both financial and legal regulation. Mustafa Elitaş has also recently hosted a meeting with representatives of the Turkish crypto ecosystem at TBMM, emphasising that it is impossible to leave the virtual world. He added that “I believe that Metaverse-based meetings will soon improve and become an integral part of our lives.”
Turkey has accelerated Metaverse’s efforts as blockchain technology has enabled digital assets, Ömerðleri said. He saw the Metaverse as an emerging but rapidly evolving field and predicted that it could affect many industries in the future. “Metaverse is open to development in the areas of virtual reality, product management and innovative business models, and AKP aims to pave the way for the Metaverse ecosystem”, Irelli said. lrelli argued that digital and technological advances have legal, economic and social aspects. He concludes that the AKP is keen to develop policies related to crypto assets and social media to protect its citizens while enhancing Turkey’s ability to innovate.
The Turkish government is interested in blockchain technology and central bank digital currencies, but Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is known for his strict attitude towards cryptocurrencies. Last year, in a public Q & A session, he declared a war with cryptocurrencies by saying, “We have no intention of accepting cryptocurrencies.”
