On April 18, three major agencies of the US government issued a joint notice about cyber threats that can attack blockchain and cryptocurrency companies. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and the United States Treasury Department were among the organisations issuing the joint notice.
The public announcement, named “cybersecurity advisory,” was publicly published on CISA’s official website. CISA is a federal agency under the US Department of Homeland Security responsible for improving the country’s cybersecurity and issuing threat warnings.
According to the advisory, the US government has observed hacking organisations believed to be funded by the North Korean government targeting cryptocurrency companies. The report’s mentioned groups include Lazarus Group, APT38, BlueNoroff, and Stardust Chollima.
The announcement also mentioned that hackers are targeting crypto exchanges, decentralised finance protocols, play-to-earn games, venture capital firms, and trading organisations in order to steal and launder crypto assets that would help the North Korean regime.
