Recently, the founder of Thoma Bravo, Orlando Bravo, talks about connections between early software firms and today’s crypto environment, as well as the reasons behind his choice to invest in the crypto ecosystem.
Thoma Bravo is an investment firm with over $100 billion in assets under management, disclosed its aspirations to enter the crypto market last fall following decades of working with software businesses.

While Bravo sees many connections between the early 2000s software sector and the current crypto sector, he also believes crypto startups have an advantage.
According to Bravo, cryptocurrency firms have superior business strategies. With very little cash, one can develop a tremendous business in the crypto sector.
Thoma Bravo’s strategy for investment
During a recent interview founder of Thoma Bravo stated the following:
“….It’s actually fairly simple to think about how Thoma Bravo makes strategic decisions: we’re very’micro.’ We focus on the best deals that are right around the corner and are compatible with our strategy. If you had to summarise our strategy in one sentence, it would be: “How do you convert great inventors into great organisations while working with and empowering current management teams?….”
Bravo went on to say that 20 years ago, the company used a similar method to enter the private equity software market, which was nearly unknown at the time. He suggested that the same approach may be applicable in the crypto world also.
Thoma Bravo isn’t the first traditional finance private equity company to understand that crypto entrepreneurs have special demands. Sequoia Capital as well as Bain Capital have both recently announced crypto-specific funds aimed at crypto-native entrepreneurs.
