The Tennessee Titans, a professional American football team, will supposedly become the first National Football League (NFL) team to accept bitcoin as a method of payment. Season tickets and sponsorship options will be available to fans through the principal digital asset i.e. bitcoin.
Widening of Bitcoin acceptance as a payment method
In the recent past, several digital asset firms have formed alliances with prominent soccer clubs. For example, Binance has recently become a global sponsor of the National Soccer Team of Argentina. Another such example is the National Basketball Association (NBA) where Mark Cuban’s team, the Dallas Mavericks, allowed fans to purchase tickets and goods in digital assets (cryptocurrencies). According to a recent revelation, the Tennessee Titans are the latest sporting entity to make that list.
Tennessee Titans Bitcoin journey
The football club will be the first in the world to accept bitcoin as payment for season tickets, suits, as well as sponsorship opportunities. At a later point, the team intends to expand the program and allow bitcoin to be used to purchase single tickets, merchandising, and at-game food and beverage services.
UTXO Management, a Nashville-based digital asset fund, is the Tennessee Titans’ partner in the new initiative. David Bailey, a partner at UTXO Management, shared his thought on the matter:
“We’re honoured to work with the Tennessee Titans as they initiate their Bitcoin voyage and offer supporters a different way to pay. The year 2022 is a very distinct year as we stay to work with professional sports clubs to support further mass adoption of Bitcoin. The Titans are a prominent NFL team and a natural match for this collaboration.”
