The Sui Network, a layer-one blockchain, has made significant strides in easing the onboarding process for Web3 by enabling users to access Sui-powered decentralized applications (DApps) without the need for external crypto wallets or seed phrases. In a press release on September 13, the Sui Foundation announced the introduction of zkLogin (Zero Knowledge login), which allows users to log in to DApps using their Google, Facebook, and Twitch credentials, just as they would on other internet platforms.
Traditional onboarding within the blockchain industry has been plagued by usability issues, including the requirement to sign transactions, manage seed phrases, and provide complex information to access certain DApps. zkLogin addresses these pain points by offering a more familiar and user-friendly login experience.
Greg Siourounis, Managing Director of the Sui Foundation, emphasized the significance of this development, stating, “By enabling users to access dApps with the social logins they have grown comfortable using, zkLogin removes a major hurdle for bringing the benefits of blockchain-based applications to billions of mainstream users.”
One of the persistent challenges in blockchain adoption has been the complexity of interacting with Web3 technologies, deterring many potential users from exploring the space. Adeniyi Abiodun, Co-founder and CPO of Mysten Labs, expressed this concern, noting that individuals who could benefit from blockchain technology often find themselves frustrated by the process of installing Web3 wallets and managing seed phrases.
The zkLogin feature not only simplifies onboarding but also ensures the privacy and security of users. Zero knowledge proof technology allows one party to verify the truth of a statement without revealing any additional information beyond the statement’s validity, enhancing the security of user credentials.
While Sui Foundation’s zkLogin is a significant step towards lowering the barriers to Web3 adoption, other entities in the crypto space are also working on improving usability. DYOR, a cryptocurrency exchange, is developing a social media-like platform to facilitate interactions within the decentralized finance (DeFi) market. Moxy, a Web3 gaming company, aims to onboard gamers into the Web3 ecosystem by offering competition-based esports platforms where players can bet against each other and earn cryptocurrency.
Additionally, the rise of Telegram trading bots, such as Unibot and BananaGun, has contributed to smoother onboarding experiences by allowing traders to participate in token sales and airdrops directly within the Telegram application.
These efforts collectively signal a shift toward making Web3 technology more accessible and user-friendly, potentially opening the doors to a broader audience and wider adoption of blockchain-based applications.
