Within a week of its launch, Strike’s digital wallet had risen to the sixth most popular banking app in Argentina.
On January 12, the company, led by hoodie-wearing CEO Jack Mallers, launched its crypto payment services for the Argentine market. Strike is well-known for facilitating Bitcoin (BTC) payments using the Lightning network, notably in El Salvador.
According to local media and user reports, the firm’s app in Argentina presently only enables the usage of Tether’s stable token USDT for Lightning transactions. Users may, however, acquire Bitcoin using the app and transmit it to a third-party wallet.
Strike is aiming to add more BTC support and features to the app in the near future, saying that the firm is following the “very same” strategy in El Salvador.
Neither Strike nor Mallers mentioned Tether in the company’s initial release, but the CEO did say that the software will allow Argentinians to “keep a solid cash balance that can be spent both promptly and without costs.”
