SEC vs Ripple: Ripple lawyer issues recent update on Ripple defendants and SEC scheduling order

According to new information provided by defence attorney James K. Filan, the Ripple defendants response to the SEC’s brief asserting that the Hinman documents are protected by attorney-client privilege is due on Friday, May 13, and the SEC’s response to the Ripple defendants reply is due on May 18.

Previously, the SEC requested that an additional brief be filed in support of its claim that internal documents relating to former SEC official William Hinman are shielded from disclosure by attorney-client privilege; this request was granted in a text-only ruling by Magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn.

In a last-ditch effort to block the release of emails relating to William Hinman’s 2018 Ethereum speech, the SEC’s Division of Corporate Finance is following its lead and making additional privilege arguments.

Other updates provided earlier by the defence lawyer included Ripple defendants requesting an extension until Friday, May 13, to answer to the SEC’s renewed accusations over the former SEC official’s emails, which was also granted.

Despite apparent delays in the case, Ripple continues to grow its remittance technology, noting an 8x YoY increase in ODL volumes in the newly published Q1, 2022, report.
