Soccer media company OneFootball raises $300 million in Series D funding

OneFootball, a Berlin-based soccer media company, revealed on Thursday that it had raised $300 million in a Series D funding round. According to an emailed statement, the funds will be used to assist the company’s expansion initiatives, investments in web3 startups, and OneFootball Labs, a new joint venture with Animoca Brands and Liberty City Ventures. OneFootball did not specify the valuation of the new funding.

Animoca Brands, Dapper Labs, DAH Beteiligungs GmbH, Quiet Capital, RIT Capital Partners, Senator Investment Group, and Alsara Investment Group also contributed to the deal, which was led by blockchain fund and incubator Liberty City Ventures.

OneFootball Labs would “allow clubs, leagues, federations, and players to distribute digital assets and fan-centric experiences based on blockchain technology,” according to the firm.

Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, will join the boards of OneFootball and OneFootball Labs as part of the round.

 Yat Siu, stated that: 

“Over the last year, the sporting universe has made progress in harnessing the potential of NFTs and gaming, offering fans new digital experiences based on the important principles of true digital ownership and decentralisation.”

And he went on to say that:

“Animoca Brands is proud to have played a role in nearly every significant milestone in the development of true digital property rights via NFTs.”
