Non-Fungible Conference: 38 artists create NFT artwork ‘Mariupol’ to raise funds for Ukrainian children

38 artists cooperated to create "Mariupol", an interactive NFT to raise awareness about the atrocities happening against children in Ukraine after the Russia- Ukraine War.

Mariupol is a living piece of art in the form of an interactive NFT. The NFT will be on display at the Non-Fungible Conference, which will be held on the 4th and 5th of April in Lisbon, Portugal. The event will feature multiple presentations, discussions, and workshops, as well as artwork by over 100 artists. Mariupol is the result of a collaboration between 38 artists from the digital art world, and it will be featured on a massive screen at the center of the event. The auction will be open to the public, and the proceeds will be donated to Voices of Children, which will provide psychological help to young victims of the Russia-Ukraine War.

Mariupol, NFT artwork is made up of 13 separate layers, each with two to four distinct states. The master owner of Mariupol has the option of selecting the ultimate look from among these states. Mariupol will be made available to 14 collectors with one master NFT and 13 layers of NFTs. Picasso’s Guernica, in which he conveyed the horrors of the 1937 bombardment of Guernica City, was cited as a key inspiration by the artists involved. Mariupol, like a contemporary reworking of Guernica, also tries to capture the cruelty of battle. Each participating artist illustrated their perceptions of the battle in the hope that it would serve as a lesson to us not to let history repeat itself.

The Guild, an autonomous and decentralised artist-led group, oversaw the creation of the artwork. Aside from Guild members, a contributing artist group included members of the Museum of Crypto Art and the Non-Fungible Conference. With its dynamic NFT technology, Async Art also contributed to the construction of Mariupol.

John Karp, the founder of the Non-Fungible Conference, commented on the objective of Mariupol, emphasising:

Like everyone else on this continent and throughout the globe, he is also outraged by the pictures we are seeing from Ukraine of innocent citizens being bombarded over again. People are compelled to act as a result of terror, contempt, and anguish.

He went on to say:

It inspires onlookers to take action. He hopes that this artwork can serve as a tribute to the strength of community and cooperation, as well as proof that, while there is still far too much evil and suffering in the world, there is also far too much good.
