NFT game by Zynga in pipeline this year

Zynga, best known for its FarmVille and CSR Racing series, has announced plans to create its first blockchain and NFT-based games this year. The billion-dollar game studio grabbed eyeballs last year in the crypto world by appointing 30-year gaming industry veteran “Matt Wolf”. He is the Vice President of Blockchain Gaming assigned to spearhead the company’s charge into the booming market.

Zynga has also announced plans to expand its existing blockchain gaming team from 15 to up to 100 employees by the end of this year. The firm may possibly soon be acquired by Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of Grand Theft Auto, which officially announced a $12.7 billion dollar purchase deal set to close in the first quarter of 2023.

Speaking with Axios about the company’s NFT-based gaming ambitions, Wolf said that next blockchain-based games will be completely new titles, as it “doesn’t make sense” to start adding NFTs into existing games like “FarmVille.” He says the new games will follow Mafia Wars, a now-discontinued social media game in which participants played the role of criminals and tried to build up their crime family.
