The most valuable Non-Fungible Token collectible to date, the Bored Ape Yacht Club, is getting its own film trilogy, courtesy of cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase. The first of three instalments of the animated short film series, titled “The Degen Trilogy,” will premiere in June at NFT.NYC, with plot contributions from both apes and non-apes in the NFT community.
Furthermore, members of the Bored Apes Yacht Club NFT are invited to submit their apes for consideration as characters in the trilogy, along with fictional character descriptions that will be reviewed by the casting director. The company behind the NFT collectible series, isn’t directly involved in the film’s production.
Coinbase also announced that the movies would be “wallet-gated” on the Coinbase website following their release. This means that before they can watch the movie, users must first create a Coinbase wallet.
Previously, the NFT collectible made headlines when it introduced its native token, ApeCoin. Binance, Coinbase, FTX, Huobi, OKX, and Kraken all listed the token. Surprisingly, the token’s value dropped by more than 80% after it was listed.
This isn’t the first time the apes from the Bored Ape Yacht Club have appeared outside of the BAYC ecosystem. Universal Music Group (UMG) is putting together a band centred on the recently acquired Bored Ape NFT. In addition, on April 9, a BAYC-themed restaurant in California opened, accepting ApeCoin, the BAYC ecosystem’s native token, as payment.
