Mysterious Satoshi-Era Bitcoin wallet reopens

The Whale Alert cryptocurrency tracker has identified a transaction from an inactive wallet since 2013. The address includes 1,000 Bitcoins, the value of which has increased more than 62 times in the 8.5 years since the wallet remained dormant.

Many people recall talking to the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto live on Internet chats in 2013, when BTC was trading at about $468.60.

This amount of BTC is currently worth $30,395,186, up from $468.60 in 2013. The owner activated the wallet and sold the Bitcoin, becoming a billionaire and cryptocurrency whale in the process. Some commenters speculated that this may be a crypto wallet belonging to the FBI.

The Silk Road darknet website was taken down by US law enforcement in 2013, and its founder, Ross Ulbricht, was given two life sentences plus 40 years in prison. His Bitcoin wallet was seized by the FBI, making the agency the owner of a large Bitcoin wallet.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin, the top digital currency, is trading just over $30,000, having recovered from a low of around $28,000 on May 12.

On April 21, Bitcoin reached a local high of more than $42,000. If the owner of the dormant wallet had sold his 1,000 at the time, he would have made an additional $12 million on the transaction.

Whale Alert reported earlier this year on at least two more dormant wallets that reactivated after almost two years of inactivity. They were worth $15.5 million and $22.1 million, respectively, and included 407 BTC and 500 BTC.
