JayFab, a car mechanic who works in Kansas City, Missouri, in the Midwest, said he accepted Bitcoin (BTC) for repairs to a Lamborghini Aventador.
He explains that the transaction was simple. When JayFab asked for the bill for the repairs, the Lambo’s owner answered, “Shoot me a wallet address would ya?” because he didn’t have any cash. “Yeah, yeah!” JayFab said.
JayFab received the Bitcoin payment for repairing a “$8500 Titanium exhaust system” and installing “some nice pipes on it for additional screams and pops, and other modifications,” and the Bitcoin block chain revved its own engines onto the next block.
The mechanic’s activities were originally discussed on the Bitcoin subreddit, where the focus was, predictably, on capital gains and tax ramifications. “The climate here [in the Midwest] for crypto is kind of non-existent, from my perspective,” JayFab says, “since it’s really blue-collar and agricultural in terms of affordable energy.”
Bitcoin adoption stories are becoming more common, and Bitcoin transactions in Kansas are not unheard of. In 2014, a Kansas buyer used Bitcoin to purchase a home for half a million dollars.
JayFab says, “With increasing acceptance, I hope to find my role in producing or providing crypto services.” In addition to accepting Bitcoin as payment for fixing the Lambo, he also sells “strange work” and “crypto-themed furniture and items” on the famous Bitcoin marketplace Bitify.
I wish my car mechanic was also accepting payments in crypto.
