On May 17, Manchester City announced that it has teamed up with Animoca Brand subsidiary NFT marketplace Quidd with the aim to introduce four NFT collectibles honouring the club’s illustrious lineup and memorable moments from the current season. On May 20, the NFT collectibles were released. These NFT collectibles were the English Premier League club’s first-ever series of fully interactive, 3D digital collectible sports cards.

Sam Barberie, Quidd’s VP of Content, noted:
“The opportunity to work with the city pressed us to do something entirely new.”
He added:
“The calibre and history of the club drove the desire to create something fans and collectors have never seen before, something that was just as interactive as what it means to be a City fan.”
Quidd is a subsidiary of Animoca Brands. It is one of the top NFT marketplaces on the Wax Blockchain. It has already partnered up with many big companies like Disney and HBO. Globally, the Quidd marketplace has over 325 distinct brands of collectibles and 8 million NFT collectors. However, this is not the first time a Premier Football League club has appeared on Quidd. Now, many sports clubs have been experimenting with NFT technology. With the inclusion of NFT technology, sports clubs are exploring new ways to increase their interaction with their fans.
This season, a large number of Europe’s premier football clubs have entered the crypto and NFT worlds. FC Porto partnered with Binance to launch their fan token last year. Barcelona has revealed its plans to create its own crypto, along with the possibility of a metaverse and NFT project.
According to the sources, in the last seven days, the Manchester City Fan token has increased by 36.37%. However, it is still unclear whether this has anything to do with the release of NFT collectibles.
