On June 1, Billy Markus, also known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto, creator of Dogecoin, joked that most of the DOGE code was written by Bitcoin developers. “They (the developers of Bitcoin) did not create dogecoin, but dogecoin is basically the code of bitcoin,” continued Markus.
Nakamoto wrote on Twitter:
Dogecoin was founded in 2013 by Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus. Dogecoin is a testament to the cryptocurrency activity established as a joke in response to the popular Shiba Inu meme (Japanese dog breed). Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has reiterated his criticism of Dogecoin founder Jackson Palmer, claiming that the Australian software developer never wrote a single line of Dogecoin code.
Elon Musk wrote on Twitter:
“And Palmer does not forget to note that he did not create a single line of Dogecoin code,” Musk said. Palmer responded with a deleted tweet now linked to his efforts on Github. In an effort to alleviate the situation, one of the founders, Billy Markus, said he or Palmer did not contribute much to the project, which was intended to be a joke.
“People who follow us do a lot more on the codebase than either Jackson or me,” Markus jokes.
In May 2021, Dogecoin reached its peak of $ 0.73, extending its previous performance when Tesla CEO Elon Musk ratified the comic coin as his favorite cryptocurrency. Elon Musk’s appearance on Saturday Night Live (SNL) coincided with the Bitcoin march to new heights.
On May 27, Dogecoin (DOGE) came up when Elon Musk announced that the items of SpaceX, his space exploration company, would soon be available for purchase using Dogecoin, similar to Tesla’s assets.
