LG Electronics Inc. announced the addition of crypto assets and blockchain technology to its corporate charter at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, March 24. The firm intends to begin the brokerage and trading of crypto-assets, as well as the creation and marketing of blockchain-based software, with the crypto and blockchain business areas.
According to Korea Economic Daily on March 24, South Korean company LG Electronics has added three new business sectors to its corporate charter: cryptocurrency, blockchain, and medical devices. At the 2022 AGM, stakeholders decided to support the revised company objectives.
When asked whether the company is contemplating opening a cryptocurrency exchange, a corporate spokesperson stated: “Nothing has been determined as of yet. We just discussed business sectors in a general sense.”
Furthermore, LG Electronics has lately shown an interest in NFTs, following Samsung into the new market. In February, the company collaborated with Kakao Corp.’s blockchain platform GroundX to provide an immersive NFT experience on its smart television models.
LG will be able to install NFT platforms that will allow the trade of NFT artworks on LG smart TVs. Furthermore, the company launched the Drops Gallery, a digital art appreciation app for its smart TVs that allows users to experience NFT artworks and cloud gaming services.
