Kevin O’Leary, a venture capitalist and “Shark Tank” star, casts a wide net for his cryptocurrency and Web3 investments, with each investment based on his decades of experience as a financial services expert and index investor.
Now the S&P 500 has 11 sectors, most experts suggest investing not more than 20% in any one sector and no more than 5% in any one stock.
O’Leary uses this method in his crypto portfolio and believes that cryptocurrency, blockchain, and new financial services will become the S&P 500’s 12th sector within a decade. Now he has 32 positions in the digital asset industry, including those with Solana, bitcoin, and blockchain company Polygon. He explained that no single job takes up more than 5% of the allowed 20%.
“Bitcoin is not a coin; it is software,” O’Leary said. He also added that the same is applicable for other tokens like ethereum, helium, and solana.
“If you feel software has long-term economic worth, you may give it a 5% weighting within your operational mandate. My bigger positions are ones that I believe have a strong economic foundation.”
