Local Hong Kong firms use children artwork as NFTs to raise funds for NGOs

Cathy and Articoin of Hong Kong use NFTs to create an innovative new opportunity for people to contribute to outstanding charitable work.

Hong Kong-based enterprises travel lifestyle brand Cathay and Articoin – an innovative Green NFT platform are using non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to raise funding for non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to promote green projects and sustainability. The combined effort by travel lifestyle brand Cathay, children’s support concept The Hub Hong Kong, and Articoin – an innovative Green NFT platform – began with a painting contest named “My Home in Sham Shui Po,” which included over 50 children and teens aged 6-18. All of the paintings show an interpretation of a local neighbourhood, Sham Shui Po, and are currently available for purchase as NFTs on Cathay’s purchasing platform, Cathay Shop, as well as Articoin’s Proof-of-Capacity (PoC)2 Green NFT platform.

Josephine Leung, Executive Director at children’s support concept The Hub Hong Kong, remarked:

“The emergence of blockchain and NFTs offers our charity work a new perspective and possibility. And we are grateful to have two highly-regarded partners and supporters to make this happen together. All net funds raised from the campaign will go to support the much-needed education and development programs for underprivileged children at The Hub Hong Kong.”

The energy used to create these NFTs is eco-friendly. In comparison to the Green NFT platform Articoin is underpinned by a more energy-efficient PoC mechanism, which significantly cuts carbon emissions (2,600 times) compared to the carbon footprint created by typical blockchain consensus algorithms.

These NFTs are limited editions that can be purchased with Asia Miles or Miles Plus Cash on Cathay’s online purchasing site, Cathay Shop, and redeemed on Articoin. Customers can also purchase them directly through Articoin’s platform using a credit or debit card.

Cathay’s General Manager of Corporate Affairs, Andy Wong, stated, “through these NFTs, we hope to provide an innovative new way for people to lend their support to the incredible charitable work being done to help the vulnerable in our community.”
