80 million WND (almost $30 million by press time) was shifted in a large transaction from the contract of WonderHero mobile play-to-earn game today, April 7, 2022, at 7:02 a.m. UTC. PeckShield, a leading cybersecurity firm, spotted this.
The game’s team quickly shut down the website and limited all in-game liquidity operations. Supporters were also requested to refrain from trading in WND until further notice. The inquiry is still ongoing, but it appears that the private key of Wonderhero’s main wallet has been compromised. The price of WND plummeted to an all-time low of $0.36 almost immediately. The allegedly stolen tokens were mass-transferred to PancakeSwap (CAKE) DEX, where they were exchanged for more than 70 Binance Coins (BNB).
Another well-known blockchain security firm, CertiK, has confirmed that the incident appears to be a hack involving a private key. If this is the case, this attack will be the most severe in the play-to-earn period thus far. The hackers stole $625 million from the Axie Infinity sidechain Ronin (RON).
As a result, the criminals were able to set new records in terms of hacks in the DeFi and GameFi sectors in less than a week.
Phew! These hacks are not stopping. Let’s see how WonderHero tackle this.
