April 23, 2024 — FPT Corporation, a leading Vietnamese information technology firm, and Nvidia, a global giant in semiconductor chip production, have announced a partnership to construct a $200 million artificial intelligence (AI) factory in Vietnam. This initiative marks a significant step towards establishing Vietnam as a central hub for AI and cloud computing technologies in Asia.
The collaboration involves FPT Corporation, Vietnam’s prominent IT and telecommunications company, and Nvidia, renowned for its powerful GPU and AI technologies. The partnership leverages the strengths of both entities to foster technological advancements in Vietnam.
The proposed AI factory, valued at $200 million, is designed to serve as a comprehensive center for AI and cloud computing services. It aims to provide a “one-stop shop” for AI products, GPU infrastructure, tech expertise, and specialized knowledge for local and regional clients. FPT will finance the infrastructure and operations of what they describe as a “sovereign cloud,” while Nvidia will supply cutting-edge AI software and hardware, including its H100 Tensor Core GPUs.
The announcement was made on April 23, 2024, following a series of significant tech-related developments and partnerships between Vietnam and international corporations, including a pivotal meeting in December 2023 where Nvidia expressed plans to deepen its involvement in Vietnam’s AI sector.
The AI factory will be established in Vietnam, positioning the country as a prospective global AI hub and strengthening its capabilities to influence AI adoption in neighboring countries, such as Japan and Korea.
The initiative aims to catapult Vietnam into the forefront of the global AI industry and transform it into an “AI nation.” This strategic move is expected to accelerate the development and application of AI across various sectors including healthcare, agriculture, climate science, and manufacturing, with the goal of enhancing economic and social outcomes in the region.
The factory will not only provide cloud GPU services to corporate clients to enhance their AI application capabilities but will also support comprehensive generative AI services. Furthermore, Nvidia’s technology and programs will be integrated into educational initiatives across Vietnam, aiming to reach over 30,000 students through collaborations with universities and high schools.
This collaboration between FPT and Nvidia underscores the growing strategic importance of AI technology in global economic landscapes and highlights Vietnam’s rising prominence as a key player in the technological advancement of Southeast Asia.
