On the day of its fifth anniversary, Cosmos reported over USD 150 million in Interblockchain Communication (IBC) operations in 24 hours, indicating that ‘slow and steady wins the race’ even in the DeFi case.

5-year journey of Cosmos after first fundraising
Cosmos’ public fundraiser commenced on April 6, 2017. At the time, the ambitious network promised consumers a fast, trustworthy, and interoperable blockchain capable of supporting a wide range of dApps and projects. The offer was warmly welcomed by investors, as it just took seconds to raise over a million dollars in BTC and ETH. The USD 17 million mark was also reached within thirty minutes of starting fundraising.
Cosmos has nearly gained full operation in these five years. The network’s crown jewel, the Interblockchain Communication Protocol (IBC), debuted in 2021 as part of the major Stargate upgrade, bringing a comprehensive interchain infrastructure to the Cosmos ecosystem. IBC facilitates transactions amongst Cosmos’ network of interconnected chains.
The USD 150 million transaction volume milestone
IBC has seen its transaction volume and transaction count grow month after month since its introduction. IBC recorded 11.2 million transactions in February 2022, representing a five fold increase in activity over the previous five months. Over USD 150 million in IBC transactions have occurred across dozens of sovereign Cosmos chains on the 5th anniversary of its inception.
