MediaMarktSaturn Group revealed in a statement yesterday, June 1, 2022, that crypto ATMs have operated at three Saturn electronics stores in Cologne, Frankfurt, and Dortmund since early May. Saturn users can now convert BTC or ETH to their digital wallet using equipment used by one of our co-operatives, Kurant, as part of a six-month pilot test.

Saturn aims to provide easy user access to the crypto space in this way. According to Christian Stephan, head of the research research team, cryptocurrency is becoming increasingly popular. This is especially true among tech-savvy customers.
The idea was created in collaboration with Kurant, a European industry leader in the distribution of Austrian-based crypto ATMs. Kurant has about 200 cryptocurrency ATMs available in Europe, mainly in Germany, Spain, and Greece. They have been working with MediaMarkt in Austria since 2019. The company installed crypto ATMs at twelve Austrian MediaMarktSaturn stores in April 2022.
Sutor Bank, a private bank based in Hamburg, is one of the project partners. Sutor Bank’s partnership with Kurant’s managing director, Stefan Grill, ensures that transactions at crypto ATMs are legal, and the bank also provides assistance with a reliable support team available if needed.
MediaMarktSaturn has said it will continue to consider expanding its operations in this service category based on results from Austria and lessons learned from an ongoing testing project in Germany. Because the group alone has some 410 stores in Germany, there is still room for improvement.
