The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) exceeded a million registered names this week. According to statistics, the number of Ethereum-based domain names registered in April increased significantly. In April, 162,978 new names were registered, compared to only 85,272 in March. Furthermore, 71,563 ENS names were registered during the last few days of May. The data also indicate substantial ENS usage over the last month.
Ethereum Name Service trending among ENS whales
According to Dune Analytics measurements, 1,063,982 names have been generated using ENS, there are 917,685.eth names and 141,443 subdomains. The one million ENS identities are distributed across 393,894 distinct Ethereum addresses.
The data also indicates that there are seven ENS name whales. These whales have over 1,000 registered names each. The leading ENS whale with domain hires.eth currently has 1,514 names, while nja.eth has 1,444 names.
Advantages of having ENS domain
One of the most significant advantages of blockchain-based domain names is that they can be used as a crypto address which would be quite easy to remember. Instead of a lengthy alphanumeric ETH address, a user can use a human-readable ENS name such as nft.eth. Because an ENS name may be both a human-readable ETH address and a domain name, the ENS protocol utilizes two smart contracts.
While ENS also operates a blockchain-based domain service, the project also features a native coin known as ENS. Prior to a specified date, ENS users received airdropped ENS coins, and the coin is utilised for the project’s governance mechanism.
