Imprisonment for the use of virtual private networks (VPNs) and digital currency is being considered by Myanmar’s military-led government. Violators of the new law will face not just jail time, but also a fine once it is enacted.
Individuals found using VPNs might face a prison sentence of one to three years, according to a report released by The Register. Offenders may also be required to pay a penalty fine of $2,800 or five million Myanmar Kyats, whichever is greater. Users of digital currency, on the other hand, face a minimum of six months in prison and a maximum of one year. They might also face fines of up to $2,800 if they are found guilty.
The military’s Transport and Communications Ministry’s permanent secretary, Soe Thein, has signed a draft bill that is currently open for public discussion. Citizens will be able to comment on the draft until January 28th, as proposed in the study.
But I want to know your comments on this. Do you think Myanmar will be left out in future in crypto matters?
