According to blockchain security firm PeckShield, data marketplace platform DataDAO contains a backdoor to steal user funds with permission.
On January 31, a real-time notice from the Twitter account PeckShieldAlert called the project a fraud and revealed the specific code of concern.
DataDAO is a platform that claims to be trying to develop a dataset marketplace where data sharing is rewarded. With only a few followers on Twitter and a clearly incomplete website, the initiative does not have a professional appearance.
DataDAO has not yet responded to the alert, and there has been no discussion about it in the global crypto community.
PeckShield, on the other hand, is a blockchain security company founded in 2018 by employees from Microsoft, Intel, and Alibaba. It is rated third in the Ethereum Bounty Program and has a collaboration system with various blockchain-related organisations.
In addition to the DAppTotal and CoinHolmes services, PeckShield offers security solutions and tools. The organisation identified 50 potentially fraudulent coins on the Binance Smart Chain a few weeks ago.
