According to the Giving platform study data, crypto gift volume increased to USD 69.6 million in 2021 from USD 4.2 million in 2020. Over the same time period, cryptocurrency contribution volume increased by nearly 16 times.
The research also indicated that the average cryptocurrency gift was 82 times bigger than the average cash donation. The average cryptocurrency gift was projected to be USD 10,455, compared to USD 128 in cash.
According to the research, cryptocurrency donations were at their peak in the final four months of 2021.This growth may be linked to the bull market and the increased acceptance of digital assets among the general public as well as non-profit organisations.
By the end of 2021, it is estimated that more than 1,000 charitable organisations have started accepting cryptocurrency donations.
A total of 70 cryptocurrencies were used to make donations, with ETH being the most popular, followed by Bitcoin (BTC) and the USDC stablecoin. BTC, Ether (ETH), and USDC will account for 85 percent of all crypto contributions in 2021.
The statistics on crypto donations reflect the rising popularity of digital currency use by activists, politicians, and even shadow governments.
