Finney, the first person to publicly run Bitcoin (BTC), with a famous tweet that frequently resurfaces in the annals of crypto Twitter history, was celebrated by the crypto community on his birthday. Wednesday would have been the birthday of Hal Finney, the first individual to receive a Bitcoin transaction from none other than Satoshi Nakamoto.
When Satoshi initially released the software, Hal Finney said he “grabbed it immediately and quickly.”
“Apart from Satoshi, I believe I was the first person to run Bitcoin. I mined block 70 or such, and I received the first Bitcoin transaction when Satoshi sent me ten coins as a test.”
Finney died in Phoenix in 2014 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often known as motor neuron disease. He was cryopreserved by the Alcor Life Extension Foundation and may be brought back to life via a technological medium in the future as an eternal technologist.
Before getting ill, Finney was known for more than simply running Bitcoin; up to Sept. 6, 2009, he also raced half-marathons.
Several Bitcoin foundations and charities organise running events, such as “Running Bitcoin,” to generate funds for ALS research as part of Finney’s legacy.
