Dallas Mavericks Spencer Dinwiddie collaborates with Bitrefill, the world’s largest crypto-only online retailer, to introduce the Bitsneaks sneaker.
The Bitsneaks are dressed in a black-on-black colour scheme with a contrasting sole and embroidered logo. They are appealing to Bitcoin enthusiasts because they include accessories such as an 825-lumen LED display that displays the BTC price. It is stated:
“Bitrefill teams up with NBA Star Spencer Dinwiddie and creates the world’s most high-tech sneaker, able to display the LIVE price of Bitcoin.”
Bitsneaks more than just Bitcoin price
The sneakers have built-in internet connectivity contained inside the sole, so keeping an up-to-date Bitcoin price is feasible. The actual trump card, at least in terms of value for money, is the shoebox, which serves as both a container and a Bitcoin mining device.
Before you consider the idea of purchasing the shoes and recouping your investment, keep in mind that Bitsneaks describes the rig as “extremely slow.”
A block would take the rig 1.7 billion years to mine at 2.769 MH/s and a difficulty rating of 27.45 T. Bitmain’s S19 XP miner, in comparison, has a hash rate of 140 TH/s, making it nearly 50,000,000 times more efficient than Bitsneak’s offering.
Bitrefill creator Sergej Kotliar stated in a press release that the Bitsneaks are aimed squarely at Nike. On the other hand, Kotliar also dismisses the notion, calling the Bitsneaks “something truly silly.” He remarked:
“For us to beat giants like Nike and build what everyone said was impossible is yet another proof of what a small, dedicated team like ours can do when trying to achieve something truly silly.”
You may be wondering, at this point, what the asking price is. The Bitsneaks cost a cool 1 BTC ($42,304 at today’s market). They will be available from an as-yet-unnamed luxury shoe marketplace in the near future.
In the next few months, more comparable releases are planned. Sign up at bitsneaks.com to be the first to know about them.
