On Monday, the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) reported that its Instagram account had been hacked through Twitter. The hacker’s scam link appears to have resulted in the theft of many precious NFTs from victims.

- The link led to a page purporting to be sponsored by Yuga Labs, which has subsequently been removed. Users were encouraged to connect their MetaMask wallets in order to get an airdrop of LAND, a new governance and utility currency.
However, other owners are now alleging that their apes were taken as part of a related hoax.
At the time of writing, the scammer’s address had gathered an estimated $2.7 million in NFTs—91 in all. 4 BAYC, 7 MAYC, 3 BAKC, 1 CloneX, and more are included.
Multiple BAYC accounts have verified that an airdrop for BAYC Land will take place, but that the mint will not take place on April 30th.
The scammer’s address has been removed from OpenSea, the largest NFT marketplace.
BAYC’s Instagram account was hacked just days after the group’s official Discord server was hacked. The attack resulted in the theft of one mutant ape worth over $68,000, according to blockchain security firm Peckshield.
Another unhappy holder was duped into selling his Bored Ape worth almost half a million dollars in a phoney NFT trade earlier this month.
Last week, a scammer attempted a similar attack on Terra users, phishing for their private keys via a phoney Google link. Approximately the course of ten days, he collected over $4 million in cryptocurrency from his victims.
