According to Bloomberg News, gamers are leaving popular play-to-earn game Axie Infinity because of the recent hack. The accessible data shows that the platform had lost nearly half of its users even before the heist.
On March 28, Ronin Network, the bridge side chain that supports crypto transactions in the game, was attacked and lost nearly USD 600 million. As a result, the developer briefly suspended withdrawals for gamers on the site, identifying issues that this may have affected the company’s user platform.
However, according to Sky Mavis, the developer of the play-to-earn project, the number of daily active users (DAUs) was declining even before the March 23 heist.
The statistics showed that the game had lost almost 45 percent of its DAU, which was now approximately 1.48 million players. This is a far cry from its all-time high of more than 8 million users in November 2021.
