On June 9, the famous American rapper Jay-Z plans to launch a financial education programme with Twitter co-founder and Block CEO Jack Dorsey. The programme will include cryptocurrency.
The Bitcoin Academy will be held twice a week from late June through September in Marcy Houses, Jay-public Z’s housing development in Brooklyn, New York.
The program’s objective is to educate project residents on how to achieve financial independence, with a focus on using bitcoin. “The basic purpose is to equip individuals with the tools they need to develop independence for themselves and then the community around them,” Jay-Z tweeted.
The course includes the basic terms of what a cryptocurrency is, how blockchains function, and how to keep individually safe from fraud
Each member will get a smartphone, a MiFi device, a one-year data plan, and a tiny amount of bitcoin to begin with. A “Crypto Kids Camp” education programme will also be available for children and teenagers aged five to seventeen.
This is not the first time Dorsey and Jay-Z have worked together. Last year, bitcoin enthusiasts formed “trust,” a Bitcoin development fund focused on developing Bitcoin in Africa and India. The couple contributed 500 BTC as its inaugural endowment, which amounted to almost $24 million at the time, making the trust one of the biggest funds of its kind in terms of relative cash value.
Lasy year Jay-Z successfully auctioned off a non-fungible token (NFT) for $139,000. The revenues from the sale were donated to the Shawn Carter Foundation and other organisations supported by Jay-Z. Derrick Adams created a special piece of digital art for the NFT to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his album Reasonable Doubt.
