Algorand blacks out the theme of its Times Square ad on Earth Day

Algorand, a blockchain and crypto payment platform, blacks out the theme of its bright green commercial ad last week at the renowned NYC tourist site Times Square. Earth Day, an annual environmental awareness day, inspired the dark theme. With Times Square commercials, Algorand (ALGO) is trying to increase its brand recognition.

On the development, the company posted the following on Twitter:

“Today, we celebrate Earth Day and take a minute to consider our future. Tomorrow, we’ll keep working together to create a cleaner future with modern, energy-efficient technologies.”

Dark theme Time Square ad

The dark theme advertisement raises awareness of Algorand as well as crypto’s energy-saving features. The negative headlines around Bitcoin and Ethereum’s energy usage have led some to believe that all crypto is environmentally unfriendly.

In a smart move, Algorand pointed out the energy-efficient crypto transactions on Twitter that darkening @TimesSquareNYC is progressive in energy usage and 1 hour of energy uses @TimesSquareNYC is nearly similar to the energy required to perform 350 million transactions on Algorand versus 6 transactions on first generation blockchain.
