Sky Mavis, the creator of Axie Infinity, has postponed the release of its highly anticipated ‘Origin’ update from March 30 to April 7. The postponement is due to a major hack in which cybercriminals stole USD 625 million from the supporting Ronin blockchain earlier this week.
On the postponement of the Origin update, Sky Mavis said the followings:
“While the updated game is ready for a soft launch, we’ve opted to give the engineering and security teams an extra window of time to thoroughly evaluate all consequences of the hack before requesting their full focus to support Origin’s release”.

The attacker discovered a backdoor in a Ronin node and afterwards made withdrawals using compromised private keys. The losses due to the hack comprised 173,600 ether (ETH) as well as USD 25.5 million USDC. The hacking was among the largest in the history of decentralised financing.
Sky Mavis has promised to pay gamers who lost money as a result of the hack.
